The bows always look so sophisticated and impossible to achieve however you can make fancy bows at home. All you need are different types of ribbon and some instructions. These bows are great for any type of decoration and also for all occasions.
Materials:
An assortment of Ribbons in any color or size
Scissors
Thread
Folding End Tables
Basic Method:
Figure 8 Rosette:
Wind 1 ½ yards of 7/8" satin ribbon over left thumb and forefinger in a figure 8 motion. This just means over the finger, under the thumb then back and forth about 10 times depending on the fullness desired. The length of the loops is determined by the spread of thumb and finger. Wind the center of the loops with a narrow matching ribbon and tie securely. Now you can shape loops to form a pretty rosette.
Kid's Hair Bow:
For this bow you will need 32" of ribbon one or 2 inches wide. Form loops by folding ribbon back and forth on a slight diagonal, creating four loops and two ends. Note that both ends come at the top. Wind thread around center of loops and tighten. Arrange loops into pretty bow.
Butterfly Bow:
Use 1 ¼ yards of 2" satin taffeta or grosgrain ribbon. Pinch the ribbon together about 4 ½ inches from end. With the long end make a loop about 9" long. Repeat step, forming a loop on the other side. Repeat until four loops have been created with the ends at the bottom of the bow. Tie center firmly with thread or matching narrow ribbon.
Hair Bow:
Use ribbon that has no wrong or right side such as satin. Two-toned satin makes especially pretty bows. 27" makes 2 bows. Lay ribbon on table in the shape of the letter "S". Now imagine a line drawn through the "S".
Pinch gathers on imaginary line to form loops and ends and wind center tightly with thread. Now you can slide a bobby pin under the threads or attach a comb or barrette.
