When you have a four year old, you get to experience everything in just a single day. You get to be really happy because he listened and obeyed you with just one command and along with that he gave you a big hug and kiss. You get to be frustrated at how he keeps on making a mess right after you clean it up. And, you also get to feel the fumes escaping your ears since he would constantly say "no" to everything that you say. Whenever this happens you just don't know what to do and feel more like screaming. But, before you throw something out of the window check out the following tips, they might just work.
Stop Saying "No"

Kids at four years old are very good imitators. They try to follow everything they see and hear around them. One moment, your kid would be talking non-stop and the next he would stay in one place as if thinking of something really deep.
Whenever you are tempted, do not always say "no" to your kid. Use euphemisms if necessary. Constantly saying "no" to your kid only hastens his absorption of the word and in fact may actually use it in his daily conversations.
So the next time around that you are tempted to say no, better think of a word that could replace "no," instead of saying it outright for your son's ears.
Be Patient
Even though your son keeps on telling you that he is not going to do things for you, try not to burst, turn red-faced and scream at your son right away. During this stage, they are really trying to be independent and would not easily submit themselves to authority. So instead of actually dealing with your son's stubborn attitude head-on and match his almost hysterical tone, try to talk to him in a low voice and talk calmly. You need to be very patient when doing this because he would not just easily succumb to you.
Stand Your Ground
It is very important to just stay calm and try to talk to him in a smooth and reassuring tone. But remember that you must also stand your ground and not give in to his whims. What's important is that you don't blow your top. Remember, you're older, wiser, and more in control of the situation than your son will ever be.
So it is not the end of the world whenever your son would continually say "no." Just take a deep breath, relax, and stand your ground. And, remember not to say "no" always to your son at home as well.
